Contour Homes residents at Royce Court sheltered scheme in Knutsford are becoming computer savvy after receiving a grant from ‘Get Digital’ a Government funded programme.
Get Digital provides computer equipment and digital skills training to older people in England who are living in sheltered accommodation
The grant at Royce Court has been used to purchase a new computer which has been adapted for older residents and a Wii-fit.
A programme of free training and resources will also be provided to enable residents to learn new skills. There are also lessons on getting the most out of the Internet and staying safe online.
Scheme Manager Ann Edwards was delighted to learn about the funding, “The residents are very excited about the project and are looking forward to joining the digital age. They are keen to use the internet to shop, e-mail, and keep up with their grandchildren.
“The Wii has also been a great success and is keeping everyone active – enhancing community spirit.”
Mrs Nettleton, a resident at Royce Court really enjoys taking part in the computer lessons: “You are never too old to learn new skills.”
