39 Steps

Knutsford Little Theatre

Knutsford Little Theatre is delighted to present Patrick Barlow’s adaptation of the novel by John Buchan which was memorably filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1935.

Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This Olivier Award winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, one hundred and thirty zany characters (played by a cast of 4), a steam train, the Forth Rail Bridge, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance!

Richard Hannay, a man bored with life, decides on a night at the theatre where he meets a woman with a thick accent who says she’s a spy. He takes her home and she is murdered. On the run, both from the police and from a mysterious organization called The 39 Steps, Hannay relies on his wits to get him out of one scrape after another before finding himself handcuffed to the astonishingly beautiful, and agonisingly obstinate, Pamela. Can he convince her of his innocence in time to learn the secret of The 39 Steps? A riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft leading to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure!

The production runs from Wednesday 9th – Saturday 12th March. Tickets are £7 and may be reserved by calling 01565 873515.
